And from lab to shelf

Bringing new or alternative food products to market or expanding an existing production plant or line is no small task. As a food producer, you’ve likely conducted extensive field and lab testing to validate your innovative food product. But what comes next? How do you translate this wealth of information into a large-scale production facility with global impact? Nuutro is here with the expertise to navigate this complex journey. Discover the essential preparatory steps for you and your partners, and learn how Nuutro expertly guides you through each phase of this transformation process.

01
Feasibility study

The origin of an idea

It all starts with shaping a compelling idea for a new food product, processing method or food application. Extensive laboratory testing and a thorough exploration of critical success factors are crucial steps. It is important that you then translate this wealth of information into a robust business case to support your concept.

During this phase, it is absolutely essential to meticulously record and document R&D insights. The knowledge gained from various laboratory tests will be invaluable in shaping the actual process lines in the future. Furthermore, recognizing the specific parameters within which process lines operate is crucial. For example, have you gathered important insights into how changes in temperature or pressure affect your product? Or the impact of factors such as foaming or microbial stability? These insights are crucial in selecting the right unit operations and drawing up an optimal process design.

Nuutro helps with:

You are early! but we can certainly help. For example with:

  • Advice on tests that still need to be performed to strengthen your business case.
  • Complementing data so that it forms good input for the concept phase.
  • Connecting with industry partners to help with specific issues.
02
Concept design

From an idea to a technical concept

In this first phase, we define the scope of the project together. We create block diagrams, process flow diagrams and batch time diagrams and select unit operations. A 2D layout visualizes the space required, so that you can see your vision take shape. We perform internal tests to limit process risks. At the end of the phase, we provide a budget and planning that match your business case.

Nuutro helps with:

  • Structure your process information in a Block Diagram.
  • Translate this block diagram into a Batch Time Diagram.
  • Design a Process Flow Diagram (PFD) based on the documents mentioned above.
  • Jointly select and test potential unit operations (machines) and assess their suitability.
  • Design a 2D conceptual layout based on the PFD.
  • Draw up an initial substantiated and logical budget.
03
Basic design

From a conceptual design to a functional proces

Our basic engineering phase adds more detail to the project. We create P&ID diagrams, equipment data sheets, item lists and functional specifications that are crucial to the automation team. 3D concept drawings bring your process line to life. We provide a revised budget that offers full transparency, so that the project costs match your expectations.

Nuutro helps with:

  • Translating the PFD into a Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID).
  • Correct zoning of the process and tagging of components.
  • Selecting and specifying suitable process components.
  • Creating a logical Process Design Specification (PDS).
  • Creating 3D concept drawings of the process line.
  • Creating a project budget for execution.
04
Detail engineering and excecution

From a functional proces to a physical production system

During the implementation phase, we create detailed 3D drawings based on the 3D concepts and produce the actual installations. We prefer prefabrication and skid construction to increase production efficiency and minimize the need for on-site work.

Nuutro helps with:

  • 3D Detail design of processing skids and integration of unit operations.
  • Design and implementation of the harNuutroare architecture.
  • Writing the right PLC software.
  • Designing understandable and logical control screens. (HMI software)
  • Prefabricating process installations (skids) in-house.
  • Cabling, IO and waterside testing of these installations in-house.
  • Safely transporting and building these installations at the production location.
  • Connecting and integrating all these installations to each other and to the necessary utilities.
05
Commissioning

The road to sustainable food

In the final stage, our technicians will visit you to ensure that the line is put into operation flawlessly. We ensure that every aspect of the project matches our original promises and that your process line is ready to deliver exceptional results.

Nuutro can help with:

  • Performing the necessary IO tests on site.
  • Creating and executing flushing plans prior to testing.
  • Performing the necessary CIP and CIP validation tests.
  • Performing the necessary water tests prior to production.
  • Performing the final production tests.
  • Optimizing both production and CIP runs.
06
Aftercare

Quality product now and in the future

After delivery of our production line, we like to remain active to support in 1st and 2nd line maintenance to ensure that the quality of the product today will also be the quality of the product in the future.

Nuutro helps with:

  • Supporting your operators by telephone or remotely
  • Periodically inspecting your process installations to ensure that your planning is guaranteed.
  • Periodically preventively maintaining your process installations to ensure that your quality is guaranteed.
